Myofascial Cupping Therapy
Myofascial Cupping Therapy
Myofascial Cupping Therapy is a soft tissue therapy.
Usind in conjunction with Sports Massage it can help with:
- Increased parasympathetic nerve response (having a relaxation effect on the body).
- Passively stretching soft tissues.
- Drawing blood from deep to superficial, resulting in improvements to blood circulation.
- Reducing tension and adhesion in the tissues.
- Increasing your range of movement and flexibility in joints.
- Moving lactic acid stagnations and metabolic wastes to enable normal lymphatic flow to promote healthy circulation.
Every Myofascial Cupping treatment is unique and, as a qualified Myofascial Cupping Therapist, I would tailor your therapy to your specific needs.
Myofascial Cupping involves the application of decompressed plastic cups on the skin, creating a negative effect vacuum which lifts up the underlying (connective) tissue and muscles, blood and other fluid, close to the surface of the skin. This therapy is typically applied on the back, shoulder, neck, sacrum, hip, abdomen, legs and arms.
Massage techniques are initially used to located areas of muscular tension, then myofascial cupping techniques are applied. The cups can be moved in a gliding motion across the surface of the skin, or alternatively where fascial adhesion or trigger points are found, the cups may be left on the specific area for short periods of time.
The process works by creating suction of the cup to produce a negative pressure or tensile stress that causes dilation and capillary rupture (this is what causes the reddish coloured circles called ecchymosis or bruising) and typically is seen to be therapeutically beneficial. This is therefore a different technique to Sports Massage which is based on the compression of the muscles and tissues.
Cupping works by stimulating inhibitory neural pathways, altering pain thresholds, promoting blood circulation, relieving swelling and increasing tissue temperature.
